Wrestling with "beautiful"

A peaceful respite
invaded me
as I walked among
the splendid
garden blooms
this Spring.

Very soon
serenity faded
as scenes
of mutilated
brothers and sisters
pierced my eyes.

Can peace and horror
share the same bed?

As fellow humans
can our eyes say
"We are beautiful"?

What shall we tell a mouse?
Will it make a difference
for those
whose world is shattered?
